Local rider, Tshepo 'Greek' Kwapa, is aiming for a top two finish in next week's eagerly awaited Toyota 1000km Desert Race.

Kwapa is among a handful of local riders aiming to hoist the Botswana flag in the wheelers category, when one of the most popular sporting events in the country celebrates its 30 years.

The determined rider had a good debut in the race when he finished third in 2008. "It was my first professional race and I did not have a sponsor. I started the race at number 38 in Hatsalatladi and by the time we reached the halfway point at Game City, I was number 10. From Game City, I ended up in position three at the finishing point," he said. He was using a Yamaha Y2125 then.
