Killer Giants surge ahead as Checkers shock Comets

Killer Giants went six points clear at the top of the First Division South log when they walloped Eastern Tigers 3-0 on Sunday as their main title rivals Jwaneng Comets slumped to a shocking 1-0 defeat to Kumakwane Checkers.

There was more good news for Killer Giants when another title hopeful, Prisons XI were held to a 1-1 draw by Kgabosetso Southern Callies. The Ramotswa side now lead the standings with 32 points with a game in hand after 15 matches. In second place is unheralded Young Strikers with 26 points after 16 matches. Prisons XI lie third with 25 points trailed by Tlokweng United with 24 points. Comets' hopes of making a quick comeback to the Premier League appear doomed as they languish in fifth spot because of inferior goal difference with 24 points.

Killer Giants face a major test of strength this weekend when they play two matches. They face Kgabosetso, the first team to beat them this season before they confront Comets on Sunday. Pocketing all the six points in a space of 48 hours would not be easy but captain Donald 'Coach' Mopako believes they can do it. "We are seven points clear but it is too early to make any predictions. I would not say we are comfortable yet. But after next weekend games, I would be able to tell you something depending on the outcome from both games. But we can do it," he said.
