The athlete admitted that arranging the German sojourn was the best thing the BAA did for him and that is why he won his specialty at the Africa championships in Mauritius last year with a new record of 2.30m. Generally, 2006 has been the most productive for the athlete. Between June and August last year, he broke the national record when he cleared 2.20m. He made it 2.25m at an IAAF Grand Prix meeting in Algiers. He extended the mark to 2.28m in Viersen, Germany. He reached the 2.30m mark at the African championships in August to establish himself as the new king of high jump in the continent.
Kgosiemang credits his coach Dr Wolfgang Ritzdorf of Germany for his development. In Gaborone, the coach told Mmegi Sport that he would like to continue working with Kgosiemang beyond the Olympics next year. The high jumper's training programme at German Sport University ends next year but both Kgosiemang and Ritzdorf agree that their relationship must continue beyond this. "I like working with him, he is a good athlete. People at home (Cologne) like him. He is a great player. I am deeply convinced he will grow even more. He has a great future in case he does not incur injuries," said the coach.
