Kgathi salutes Botswana Games organisers

The Minister of Youth, Sport and Culture, Shaw Kgathi, has praised organisers of the third Botswana Games for their efforts despite glaring challenges.

Speaking at the official opening of the games in Gaborone on Monday, Kgathi said it was a big challenge to host a competition of this magnitude. He said it showed that they are ready to host even international competitions.

The games, despite setbacks, took off after a colourful ceremony on Monday evening. During a brief ceremony, spectators were treated to 15 minutes of fire works. The fireworks depicted the colours of the Botswana Games being black, green, and yellow and blue much to the amusements of attendants. The competition has attracted 3,973 athletes.  Kgathi said it was befitting that the games are held at the end of the year to celebrate what he termed a historic year. Kgathi said the Zebras' qualification to the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) finals and the Young Zebras' third place finish in the Metropolitan COSAFA Under-19 are among achievements worth celebrating.
