Key positions remain vacant at BNSC

*Council defends acting appointments
The Botswana National Sports Council (BNSC) acting marketing and communications manager Modiri Ontitile sees nothing amiss with the sports body running without top-level managers.

This follows the exodus of key staff in the recent past including the chief executive officer, Kitso Kemoeng. The positions of CEO, finance manager, marketing and communications manager, sports development manager are vacant, with only acting appointments. The human resources manager has been suspended, but Ontitile said the people who have been appointed to act are equally capable.  Although employees who held top positions resigned within months of each other, Ontitile believes this does not represent a crisis.  He said their departure did not affect the operations of the council. He also said that it was normal for people to leave their jobs for greener pastures and that this was the case with those who left. "People leave companies everyday and I do not understand why it should raise eyebrows when it is BNSC," he wondered. BNSC has struggled to retain staff, which affiliates finds worrying.

Ontitile was hopeful that they would have filled all the positions by the end of July. However, he refused to shed light on the suspension of the HR manager. The manager was reportedly suspended for misconduct, although some argue it's a ploy to purge employees aligned to former executive secretary, Kitso Kemoeng. It is said the HR manager had poor relations with other employees. Former HR and communications manager, Debra Phefo left the council late last year just five months after serving in the position.
The sports development manager, Lobone Kasale also left in March under unclear circumstances.
