Kalanga boys are football champs

North East boys team is this year's Botswana Games football champions after beating Lobatse 4-3 in the penalty shootout. The two teams were tied at 2-2 at full time in a game that started on a slow pace but boys from the Kalanga area prevailed in penalties.

North East fought back from 2-0 trailing in the second half to level the scores. Lobatse boys'  celebrations were short lived as they failed to maintain the pace that they had started the game with. The first half of the game did not produce the standard that befit the final as it looked like the boys were tired. First to score was Lobatse's Rapula Jaao in the first half. The Peleng side increased the tally  when Matthews Moruti extended the lead in the 32nd minute. Although Lobatse scored first the two teams were neck to neck in creating chances, but the Kalanga boys  were let down by poor finish. If both sides had finished the chances they created the score line could have been bigger. In the second half it was the North East side that showed more hunger.

The team was impressive moving forward, but continued to falter when it mattered most. However, their hard work finally paid off when they found the back of the net courtesy of Mothusi Luzile. The goal seemed to inspire confidence as North East fought to level matters. But it was still North East that had an upper hand piling more and more pressure on Lobatse defence. But the same old story continued, as North East could not convert the many chances that they created. When it looked like Lobatse will win the match, like a true captain, Langa Mabule saved his side from the sinking titanic levelling matters for the North East side forcing the match into penalties.
