Japanese guru to train local karatekas

Local karatekas are expected to benefit from Japanese karate guru Shigeki Uemura's 22-day visit.

While here Shigeki, who is a member of the World Karate Federation and Referee Council, will train athletes and coaches in different karate styles. The seventh black belt Dan holder arrived in Gaborone on Wednesday and will fly back to Tokyo on February 22.

Botswana Karate Association (BOKA) arranged a welcome dinner for Shigeti at which BOKA president, Gift Nkwe emphasised the importance of guruÕs visit saying karate has grown and it was opportune for stakeholders to get refreshed. Nkwe was also impressed that karate has grown and that the country has credible local instructors."Today we are privileged to have credible local instructors who know the difference between a movie and a reality show and as a result Batswana karatekas are among the best in Africa and the world," he said.
