Japan instructor meets BOKA

Visiting Japanese karate instructor, Shihan Shigeki Uemura started off his month-long visit with a closed meeting with the Botswana Karate Association (BOKA) and local chief instructors. He is scheduled to conduct his first training session this afternoon.

Uemura arrived in the country on Wednesday on an official visit that has been facilitated by the Japanese Embassy together with BOKA and will see the revered instructor drill the country's junior and senior karatekas.The local karatekas will be taken through different fighting styles during the sessions.A quick google search shows that Uemura is part of the World Karate Federation (WKF) judges' committee. Therefore, he will conduct referees and judgesÕ courses for local adjudicators during his stay.

BOKA public relations officer, Jerry Ditlhong said they are anticipating a transforming spell under the high-grade instructor. "The idea was for BOKA to meet and give him a brief about general karate issues, how the sport has been faring, how we have been doing and what we need to take it higher levels," he said.
