Is the Premier League too predictable?

The Bosele Declaration, a blueprint towards Premier League professionalism, advocates for a 12-team league primarily to improve competition.

The recent exploits by the Zebras have been mostly attributed to the competitiveness of the league. However, a worrying trend seems to be developing, more similar to that of the Spanish Primera Liga and the Scottish League.

Until the past few weeks, the 2011-2012 season seemed to have taken a different turn. Of all the teams, Nico United were right in the thick of things. Suddenly everyone was talking about the chance of another team, besides Township Rollers and Mochudi Centre Chiefs, winning the coveted crown. The paradigm seems to have shifted, with Nico's ascendancy and for once talk was not about only Chiefs and Rollers.  Something unexpected and that could break up the behemoths seemed to be on the cards, until Nico lost two games in succession, thereby surrendering second spot to usual title prospects, Rollers.  Nico's second loss in a row was against Chiefs, which saw the Kgatleng side open eight-point lead over the Selebi-Phikwe side.  Now fear is cripping in among Nico United sympathisers in that this could spell the end of their pursuit for the title with Chiefs and Rollers hardly ever looking back once they occupy top positions.  It could still be premature to say it would once again be a two-horse race between Rollers and Chiefs this season, especially with BMC occupying the second spot. However, the trend that has developed during the past two seasons could be enough to anticipate yet another fierce battle for the title between the two giants. The last time another team won the crown was three seasons ago, when Gaborone United (GU) piped Chiefs right at the end. Although Rollers went on to win it in the past two seasons, there was a fierce battle with bitter rivals, Chiefs.
