What was supposed to be a brutal quest for the top spot in test cricket is panning out to be an embarrassingly one-sided affair. England pulverized India at Lords and then the contest moved to Nottingham's Trentbridge, and the result was even more emphatic.

India arrived in England as the top ranked test nation but that statistic is now under threat. In the two tests played thus far, there has been no evidence of class in the Indian line-up. One would have been forgiven for thinking that India was an associate nation still learning the ropes in cricket.
