Introspection saves Prisons XI

Prisons XI have toppled Jwaneng Comes from second spot in the First Division South following their narrow 1-0 victory of bottom club Masitaoka at the weekend. The two ex-Premier League sides tie on 24 points but Prisons XI is ahead on goal difference though Comets have a match in hand.

Veteran striker Tatenda Mbikiwa believes their steady climb to the top came as a result of self- introspection. "We lost two games in succession at the end of the first round and that came as a wake up call. Now are happy to have recovered from the setback. After our new coach arrived (Moipapedi Rankhudu), he told us that it was up to us as players to ensure that the team achieves better results and that no matter how much effort management puts into the team, if the players are not willing to go the extra mile, we would not go anywhere. He was right. We talked among ourselves and we started winning games," Mbikiwa said. The Serowe-born marksman however said that the players are not putting themselves under pressure. "

We are not aiming to overtake anyone. We just concentrate on winning our own games and if those at the top falter on the way, we take advantage but not that we set out to topple them. It makes us concentrate and enjoy our game," he said. Mbikiwa who has seen Prisons XI relegate twice since he joined them in 2000 has been the team's engine over the years. However, he said that this season, he has not contributed much.
