Inclement weather mars start of Botswana Games

The start of the second edition of the biennial Botswana Games in Gaborone was marred by heavy rains on Sunday forcing some of the activities to be delayed or postponed due to waterlogged pitches.

The games' general manager, Tuelo Serufho said the challenge posed by the rains has been overcome and some of the postponed matches have been re-scheduled. The games kicked-off with a P1.4 million budget deficit after the organising committee failed to raise the required P6.2 million. Serufho said the deficit will not affect the quality of the games.

He is optimistic that some sponsors will come to the rescue before the competition ends on Saturday. He said in the absence of a fresh cash injection, they will be forced to prioritise.  The games' chef de missions told Mmegi Sport that they were satisfied with progress so far.
