I'm not trying to rob Fani's house - Sebego

The battle of legal brains at Lekidi Centre has soared after both the Botswana Football Association (BFA) president David Fani and legal advisor Tebogo Sebego made their intentions for the top post clear. The two are both lawyers, they have a soft spot for Gaborone United (GU) and are always resplendent in suits. But probably the similarities end there as Staff Writer, MQONDISI DUBE quizzed Sebego about his presidential ambitions

Why did you decide to stand for the BFA presidency?
I have been in football all my life both as a player and administrator. With my history in the game, I have served two presidents as legal advisor and I think I have learnt a lot. I felt as a midwife of the BFA constitution and entrepreneur this is the right mix that football needs at the moment.

Do you think you can serve football better in your current capacity?
The president is the face of the game, he is the ultimate custodian of the game and it is a political position. The game should absorb your philosophy as the president. If you are a legal advisor your roles are defined in the constitution. You are not elected, but appointed by the (BFA) National Executive Committee. My mandate is not political at all. It's not my call to influence policy; my role is to be told that we have a policy so how do we make it compliant with the statutes?  So I cannot come up with initiatives, which are politically inclined. I believe as president, I will be able to channel my philosophy and thinking into the game.
