Ikgopoleng relishes Namibia, SA friendlies

National boxing coach, Khumiso Ikgopoleng is relishing the two international friendly matches lined up for his seven boxers who are presently in camp preparing for the Africa Olympic qualifiers set for Rabat, Morocco, in April. The tournament kicks off on April 25.

Bathusi Mogajane, Mooketsi 'Tornado'Lekgetho, Mmoloki 'Muller' Nogeng, Oteng Oteng, Gomotsang Gaasite, Ofentse Kompone and Thato Batshegi are in camp preparing for the Rabat qualifiers at the Athletes' Village in Gaborone West.

Ikgopoleng said they were taking the preparations seriously as Rabat's qualifying bouts will determine who represents the continent at this yearÕs Olympics in London.Only two African boxers, both from Algeria, got automatic qualification during the World Boxing Championships that were held in Baku, Azerbaijan, last September. "I'm quite pleased with the way the whole team is responding to training, the boys look determined to qualify. We are looking to gauge ourselves in March when we play Namibia in a friendly international and later South Africa," Ikgopoleng said.Ikgopoleng said his plan was to work on power during the first month of the camp, as well as fine-tuning the boxers' basics in the sport. Thereafter, training will turn tactical before they meet Botswana's two neighbours in the international practice matches. Ikgopoleng explained why he opted for the two countries.
