Humid weather blamed for Youth team's failure

Windy and moist weather on Britain's Isle of Man has been blamed for the Youth Commonwealth Games' team failure to attain its medal target.

Team manager Gabotepele Molefhi believes if the team left early for Isle on Man the performance could have been better. Botswana managed to win two medals against a target of four. There were 65 Commonwealth nations, which took part in the competition. Molefhi told Mmegi Sport that the weather on the Isle of Man was windy and humid. She said it was difficult to acclimatise within a short period of time. However, Molefhi was impressed with the team's performance despite failing to reach their target. Molefhi said most of those who did not win managed to improve their personal times.

"I think generally they did well. Nurturing talent is something that takes a long time," she said. She said the other positive was that athletes improved with each stage of the competition, an indication of better fortunes ahead.Molefhi said athletes did not show stage fright despite the fact that most of them were making their debuts.  Molefhi said there were a few challenges during preparations as some athletes did not have sufficient time to train.
