Hotspurs welcome re-match with GNT

Mahalapye Hotspurs have welcomed the decision of the Botswana Football Association (BFA) Disciplinary Committee to order a replay of their abandoned game with Great North Tigers (GNT).

The game ended prematurely with GNT leading 2-0. BFA awarded the game to GNT but Hotspurs appealed the decision and got a reprieve on Tuesday after they were initially blamed for the abandonment.

The Appeal's Committee has ruled that the game be replayed this weekend in Francistown. Before the appeal, the two sides were scheduled to play against each other to decide which side goes to the promotion play-offs. GNT had 39 points before the Tuesday ruling while Hotspurs had 42. The two sides were scheduled to fight for a play-off spot since Hotspurs led GNT through soft points collected from boardroom decisions. However, the Tuesday ruling has given Hotspurs a new lifeline. If they win, they will be guaranteed a place in the play-offs. A loss will mean another face-off with GNT for a spot in the play-offs.
