Hotspurs and Wanderers clash over player

SELEBI-PHIKWE: First Division North outfits, Mahalapye Hotspurs and Orapa Wanderers are fighting over striker, Thato Azure Ganetsang.

The tussle started after Wanderers refused to release the player's registration book when his contract ended in January. Hotspurs' spokesperson, Godfrey Ranthoka, said they showed interest in the player after his contract with Wanderers expired. He said Hotspurs informed the Orapa side of their interest and all recruitment procedures were followed. But the move hit a buffer when Wanderers refused to release the player's registration book.

Ranthoka said Ganetsang's talent is being wasted as Wanderers clings to his registration book. "It is a sad thing for a team to refuse to let go of a player. He has no contractual obligations with them. I think they just wanted to punish us," he said. Ranthoka said the issue was taken to the Players' Status Committee but it remains unresolved. Ganetsang said it was frustrating sitting on the sidelines for half the season. He said his contract with Wanderers has expired but his former club refuses to release his registration book. "I informed Wanderers that I was interested in joining Hotspurs. By the time Hotspurs approached me, I was a free agent. Things came to a halt when I could not get my blue book. I have not played the entire second round of the league," he said. No comment could be obtained from Wanderers' spokesperson as his mobile phone rang unanswered.
