Rugby league early pacesetters, Gaborone Hogs added to EMG Gunners' woes; beating them 34-21 in a dull encounter played at Wharick Park on Saturday afternoon.

Saturday's loss was their fifth of the season after only managing one win in the opening six of the season. Gunners' makeshift backline was heavily exposed on an afternoon when the result could have ended differently as Hogs were also out of sorts. Hogs looked pumped up at the start of the game, dominating play throughout the first half albeit with an unimpressive display.

Gunners looked like spectators during the opening half, as they gave their opponents too much space to venture upfront. And Hogs took advantage of that, opening the score sheet through D McCarthy barely two minutes into the game. McCarthy scored through a try. Five minutes into the game, they led 5-0. Gunners later picked up, reducing the deficit to 8-5 after a Daniel Ntshutelang try in the 10th minute. They came close to drawing level a minute later when the score read 8-7. But they went back into a slumber, allowing Hogs to stretch their lead. Hogs camped in their half for long periods, but could not turn their dominance into scores. However, they still went to the breather leading 22-7.
