Haskins trophy winners to be decided this weekend

The Botswana Bowling Association (BBA) will host the annual Botsogo Health Plan tournament at Makhubu Club in Selebi-Phikwe this weekend.

The tournament is the fifth and final one in the race to win to the Haskins trophy. Currently, Francistown Bowls Club is in pole position in the contest with 22 points followed by Jwaneng (18), Phikwe and Gaborone are joint third position with 17 points while Orapa occupy the last position with 14 points.  BBA spokesperson, John Gaborutwe told Mmegi Sport that 14 teams and 56 players will be in action this weekend.  Jwaneng and Phikwe clubs will bring three teams each, Orapa and Gaborone will have two each while Francistown will field four.  “The winner of the Haskins trophy is determined by the number of points accumulated over five major tournaments held under the auspices of BBA between January and December each year,” Gaborutwe explained.

The defending champions of Botsogo Health Plan trophy is Francistown Club while this weekend’s hosts, Phikwe Club hold the Haskins trophy.
