Handsome rewards await Softball tourney winners

SELEBI-PHIKWE: Top softball clubs in the country will take part in the fourth edition of the annual Phikwe Softball Extravaganza Tournament to be held over the President's Day holidays.

A member of the organising committee, Oeme Morupisi told Mmegi Sport that preparations for the tournament started with eliminations. Defending champions, Rail Giants (ladies)from Mahalapye and Scramblers (men) from Francistown and Comets, who are the hosts, have automatically qualified to play in the tournament.  He said that 16 teams would participate in the tournament. "The tournament is sponsored by BCL Mine, Bridgestone and Komatsu. The ladies's winner will walk away with P18, 000 which is sponsored by Bridgestone and the men's winner will take home P22, 000. The prizemoney is a sponsorship from Komatsu," he said.

The ladies runner-up will pocket P12, 000, while the third placed team gets P8, 000 and fourth spot prize is P6, 000. The team that finishes fifth will walk away with P5, 000 while sixth spot prize money is P4, 000.  The runner up to the men's champions will get P15, 000 and number three receives P10, 000.  Morupisi explained that there are also individual prizes for the most valuable player (MVP) for both ladies and men. He said the MVP would get P1, 000. The slugger for ladies will receive P800 and for men, the prize is P1, 000. He said venues to be used for the tournament have been increased from three to four: "The tournament is sanctioned by the Botswana Softball Association (BSA).
