Gunners hoping for the best

Inconsistent Lobtrans Gunners will be hoping for a positive result when they visit Jwaneng Comets in a Mascom Premier League at the Galaxy Stadium on Saturday night. The game that kicks-off at 8pm is expected to be a fierce battle as both sides need points badly to avoid the relegation fight.

Though Gunners are relatively safe as they are sitting on position 10 with 25 points from 22 games, they must guard against sinking into the relegation zone because they have been doing poorly of late. After a promising start to the season, Mapantsula faltered along the way and started dropping points when least expected. Against Gaborone United (GU) last Thursday night, Gunners were once again exposed in defence and lost 2-0. In Comets, they meet a side capable of causing havoc especially at home.
Basing on the current form, Comets are favourites to send the Lobatse arsenal to the cleaners. Yesterday, Gunners' spokesman Kitso Dlamini told Mmegi Sport that they are aware of the situation they are in and they are equally worried. But he pointed out that he takes solace from the fact that they have been dishing out entertaining football. "I think fatigue is the major factor because we've a young and inexperienced squad. It is up to us to come together in the remaining games and get maximum points," said Dlamini. He asserted that their visit to Comets is important and that is why they travelled to Maun over the Easter Holidays to refresh. "Maybe this would help the players and make them focus. All I can say is to ask the supporters to travel to Jwaneng and rally behind the team. With their support, we can do it," said Dlamini. Gunners will once again call on the experience of captain Tshepo Motlhabankwe, Mogorosi Magetse and System Mubi to collect maximum points in the diamond-mining town. Another player who can do things for Gunners is youngster Ofentse Mmipi. "I would like to thank our supporters to give fallen Notwane coach Banks Panene's family the necessary gift they deserve. He was an important servant of this country," said Dlamini.
After squandering a 2-1 lead to share spoils with Prisons XI over the weekend, Comets' coach Oris Radipostsane will be hoping that they recover and produce a better performance. He said that there is nothing special he would do before meeting Gunners because all they need is maximum points. "We're not under pressure and our fans seem to be enjoying watching us. That would give us the necessary motivation," Radipotsane told Mmegi Sport.
He said that he expects all his players to be available on Saturday. Goalkeeper Emmanuel Bentu is expected to be back after missing the game against Prisons XI due to work commitment. But chances of having Bobo Motlhalane back are slim as he will be preparing for the Under-23 game against South Africa on Sunday. Former Gunners' star Mogorosi Motswagae and Kagiso Moselakgoko would cherish facing their former teammates. After being offloaded, Moselakgoko would be happy if he scores on the night for Cosmos.
