GU treasurer Kagiso Rantswaneng said they agreed with the BPL that it would be much better if the game was played in Gaborone. GU are in third position, two points above Rollers who occupy fourth spot. The UB Stadium hosts the Botswana Democratic Party’s (BDP) 50th anniversary celebrations on Saturday. Rantswaneng explained that he is hopeful that the talks will bear fruit.
He said the game would start at 4pm as originally scheduled. Tickets for the match cost P30 and went on sale yesterday at both GU and Rollers’ offices, CD Sports (Gaborone) and Choppies (Station). Rantswaneng said the reason for the P5 increase in ticket prices is to ensure better security arrangements. Rollers’ fans will occupy the northern stands, while their city rivals will be in the southern stands. The eastern stands, usually called Panda stand will be split into two with Rollers'supporters sitting on one side and GU supporters on the other. Pro Guard Security chief executive officer (CEO), Obed Pelotshweu stressed the need for all the stakeholders to work together for the safety of the spectators as well as the players and match officials. He pleaded with the two teams to provide beverages and other necessities inside the stadium to prevent supporters from going out at half time.
He said they usually have to deal with a large number of supporters when the second half kicks off, all looking to get inside at the same time.He said it is very risky and could lead to a stampede.
