GU, Rollers chase elusive silverware

University of Botswana (UB) Stadium will be the focal point this Sunday when two Gaborone giants, Township Rollers and Gaborone United (GU) lock horns in the Mascom Top 8 semi-final first leg.

The match has all the ingredients of a thriller considering what is at stake. Mascom Top 8 remains the last one hope for silverware for both sides, who have already missed out on the league title. The two giants have in the past month made some questionable decisions in their technical departments. Rollers dumped Stanley Mwaanga and replaced him with Mike Sithole, while GU fired caretaker coach, Razor Tsatsilebe in absentia. Sithole will hold fort until the end of the season, while Philemon Makhwengwe will also lead GU for the same period.

Whether these decisions were on point remains to be seen. However, the two sides' supporters would most definitely look for nothing less than a place in the final. Both have squads to win this game although the recent clashes between the two seem to give Rollers the psychological edge. Rollers were victorious in both rounds of the league this season. Rollers have been boosted by the return of striker, Onalethata Tshekiso from an injury he picked up in their 2-0 loss to Mochudi Centre Chiefs a fortnight ago. Tshekiso single-handedly buried GU in the second round of the league, twice escaping from the GU central defence. Sithole will have a headache trying to come up with the starting line-up with national team players returning from national duty. Striker, Mogakolodi Ngele has missed the team's last two matches as well as goalkeeper, Kabelo Dambe. Edwin Moalosi has been covering relatively well for Ngele who remains a key figure for Rollers.
