GU-Nico officials blast PLC

Nico United have joined Gaborone United (GU) in slamming the Premier League Committee (PLC) for cancelling their game scheduled for last Saturday.

Both clubs condemned the last minute cancellation saying that it was not necessary. The troubled GU say they are shocked the PLC cancelled the match instead of granting their earlier request for a postponement of the club's games to sort out internal problems. GU publicity officer, Atamelang Thaga said sometimes back they requested the league committee to postpone their games because they were facing an internal crisis. He said they wanted to be given time to sort out their problems that saw the club register a series of losses. Thage said just when they had given up on their request for postponement, the PLC informed them on Friday that they have cancelled the game against Nico. The cancellation came after GU were rendered coachless following the departure of Jethro Hunidzaria and his assistants in the run-up to the Nico game last week. Thage suggested that may be the PLC thought it was helping GU, but the cancellation came at a wrong time when they had already prepared for the weekend game. "They should not have cancelled the game at the 11th hour," he said.

Nico United secretary, Lekau Relentse said they were only informed late on Friday by the PLC that their game against GU has been cancelled. The official said no reasons were given for the move. He said they spent a lot of time and money preparing for the game. "We have been inconvenienced by the cancellation. We were looking forward to the game," he said. Relentse added that they are still waiting for the PLC to inform them why the match was cancelled.
