Great start for African sides

CAIRO: What looked like a great start for African teams at this year's FIFA Under-20 World Cup in Cairo, Egypt produced some disappointment when powerhouse Nigeria fell 1-0 to Venezuela.

Egypt, Ghana and Cameroon all registered impressive results in their first matches with South Africa drawing with United Arab Emirates (UAE) on Sunday evening in a match they had virtually won. The South Africans looked on course to emulate Egypt, Ghana and Cameroon but surrendered a 2-0 lead to draw 2-2.

This has put them in an uncomfortable position and they will have to win their second match against Honduras on Saturday. The Nigerians are worse-off after the 1-0 loss to Venezuela on Friday but had the chance to redeem themselves yesterday against powerful Spain.
