Kaone 'Chukwu' Gopolang of BDF Cheetahs says he is not surprised that he was chosen Botswana's best player at the Castle Rugby Sevens tournament in Lusaka,Zambia over the weekend. He spoke to Mmegi Sport Correspondent, NELSON DIRENG

Every time he walked into the pitch for a game in Lusaka, he wanted to bring the Castle Rugby Sevens Cup home. He scored three tries in three matches and says it was an easy task because no defender could block him. "We lost by a very small margin because we lacked match fitness and proper composition. Most of the teams we played against specialise in sevens tournaments, which made it difficult for us to cope, as sevens are much tougher. The team nonetheless gave its best, as everyone was a hundred percent committed," he said.

The 27-year-old player grew up interested in singing more than sports. His passion for choral music began when he was doing Standard Four at Boikhutso Primary School. He continued singing at Sir Seretse Khama Junior Secondary School and Ledumang Senior Secondary School. But due to influence from friends, he decided to stop singing at Ledumang and to focus on football. He completed senior secondary education in 2000 and found a job at Kgalagadi Soap Industries the following year. He played for the company's football team. He joined Barclays Bank where he continued with his football before becoming a soldier at BDF.
