SELEBI-PHIKWE: Young golf sensation, Leroy Pearmain, continued with his rise to the top with a flawless display to bag the First National Bank of Botswana (FNBB) Northern Open last weekend.

The 14-year-old Pearmain has already landed 12 titles locally, which earned a call-up to the junior national team.

His achievements belie his tiny structure and age. It was the first time that Pearmain captured the Northern Open. He said he had to sweat for the win and fought off a fierce challenge from  Francistown veteran golfer, Peter Podise in a play-off. The two were tied on 26 holes score of 156 after day two of play. In the play-offs, Podisi and Pearmain played holes one, five and 17 to determine the winner. Pearmain scored two pars and a birdie (4, 3 and 3) for a total of 10 while Podise scored a par, bogey and a birdie (4, 4 and 3) for a total of 11 shots. "The competition was tough but I managed to win. I worked on the mistakes that I made during the Botswana Life Insurance tournament that I also won. I realised that he had a challenge with concentration," he said.
