Goalless Night

The national Under-23 side was held to a goalless draw by visiting Cameroon in the 2008 Olympic Games qualifier at the National Stadium last night. Playing in front of an almost full-house, the Young Zebras played some beautiful football but failed to penetrate the solid Cameroon defence, led by Alexis Enam.

The draw gave Botswana its first point while Cameroon now has four.  The other sides in the group are Morocco and Guinea. The draw against Cameroon has now left the Young Zebras with no option but to beat Guinea in the next game to put their qualification dreams back on track. The Young Zebras travel to West Africa in two weeks time.

Last night, the Zebras' plan was clear as the players went on the offensive but once again, luck deserted them. As for the visitors, it was obvious they would be satisfied with a draw. The visitors could have taken the lead in the 28th minute but Andre Ndoh Dona headed wide with goalkeeper Noah Maposa at his mercy. As expected in the opening half, Cameroon used their wings to open up the Young Zebras' defence led by skipper Musa Ohilwe.
