Goalkeeper by nature

FRANCISTOWN: National Under-23 soccer team goalkeeper Itumeleng Selapa has never had any illusions about where he wants to play.

He fell in love with goalkeeping at childhood when kicking a ball made of plastics in the streets of Palapye. "I believe that goalkeeping is in my blood," he says.

He started serious goalkeeping at Motlakase in 2003. Two years later, he was loaned to Palapye United before crossing to FC Palapye. Then he caught national attention last year when he replaced injured Noah Maposa of Mochudi Centre Chiefs as Under-23 goalkeeper. He became a target of national champions ECCO City Greens and Gaborone giants, Township Rollers. Eventually, he joined ECCO, despite a strong bid by Rollers. Why did he prefer the less-fancied ECCO over highly respected Rollers?
