GNT falter in the north

SELEBI-PHIKWE: While Naughty Boys have won the First Division South League, the battle in the north was thrown wide open over the weekend.

Once again, Great North Tigers (GNT) lived up to their reputation as the nearly men of the division over the weekend when they let slip a good chance to wrap up the title when they were walloped 3-0 by the visiting FC Satmos in Francistown. The defeat means that up to four clubs are now in contention for the title with three games to go while a win for GNT would have virtually ended the race.

But now, Satmos have cut GNT's lead to six points with three games to go. The gap will be four points if fourth-placed Miscellaneous win the game they have in hand to go second. Satmos and Motlakase are still in with a chance at 34 points each. However, Motlakase's title chances are slim because they are left with two games and the highest number of points they can is 40. The Palapye side still has to play GNT and Miscellaneous. Realistically, it is down to three teams - GNT, Satmos and Miscellaneous in the race for the top prize.
