GNT celebrations on hold

SELEBI-PHIKWE: Great North Tigers (GNT) are not popping the champagne bottles yet, despite a healthy seven point lead at the top of the First Division North with only four games to go.

The club's automatic promotion chances were enhanced at the weekend when their closest challengers, Satmos were thumped 6-1 by Motlakase. Satmos needed to beat the Palapye side to reduce the gap at the top before a potential title decider against GNT this weekend. However, the shock result all but handed the Francistown side a ticket to the Premier League next season. GNT now need only five points from their remaining four games to wrap up the title.

However, club spokesman, Amogelang Mabote refuses to be carried away. He said the race is still on and their nearest rivals, Miscellaneous pose a threat. "The race is still on. Our opponents still have a chance. Despite Satmos losing over the weekend, you cannot say it is (an) advantage to us," Mabote said. A win over a stuttering Satmos this weekend will virtually hand GNT the title and automatic promotion to the Premier League.
