Long jump star Gable Garenamotse will miss three Grand prix events this month after being sidelined by a groin injury he suffered before he won gold at the recent All Africa Games in Algeria. However, he hopes to compete at the Osaka, Japan World Championships slated at the end of the month.

Garenamotse told Mmegi Sport that the injury has forced him to shelve plans to participate at the Norwich Union Super Grand Prix on August 3, the Universiade, Italy, from August 9-14 and ano-ther event in Germany. The athlete said he was invited to the prestigious and lucrative events but due to injury, he has been advised to rest and allow the groin to heal ahead of the World Championships.

"The groin is a serious injury. It can take six months to heal but the doctor has assured me that I will be able to take part in the World Championships," Garenamotse said.
The reigning BNSC/Barloworld Sportsman of the Year said: "At one stage, I thought I would not proceed with the All Africa Games competition because of the way the groin was hurting, but the team doctor really did a good job there. It was not easy. I had to spend a whole day resting for the pain to subside before the semi-finals," he said.
