Gabz city FA hosts awards ceremony

Special Support Group (SSG) side, Wonder Sporting received medals and a trophy for winning the Gaborone City Regional Football Association (GACFA) Division One league title during an awards presentation ceremony on Saturday.

Their runners-up in the region are UB Hawks, who also received medals. Hawks are home to national Under-23 defender, Edwin Motlhagodi, who was recently called up to one of the senior national team camps by coach, Stanley Tshosane.

The region consists of 56 teams with 14 teams in each of the four divisions. Power Lines also received gold medals and a trophy after winning the Division Two league. Runners-up, Holy Ghost got silver medals. Duma Chiefs were the Division Three champions, while Vico Mates were second best.  In Division Four, Kamenakwe received a trophy and gold medals, while runners-up City Eagles got silver medals.  Chairman for the region, Albert Gaopelo said they are proud to be able to hold award ceremony even though all their leagues do not have sponsors. He urged companies to come on board and help develop football in the region. He said regional leagues are important because "this is where real development takes place".  Gaopelo was also proud that for four years now, a team from their region has qualified for the First Division after winning the play-offs. Wonder Sporting are following in the footsteps of Security Systems who joined First Division South league this season.
