Gaborone, Orapa tops national bowls championship

SELEBI-PHIKWE: Orapa and Gaborone clubs have emerged tops in the 36th edition of the annual national lawn bowls championships.

Hosts Orapa dethroned defending champions Francistown to lift the women's fours title while Gaborone club won the men's rinks. The Orapa team consists of  Ellie Geldenhuys (skip), Geogie Mckechnei, Doreen Moleleki and Mair McKinnon. The men who did it for Gaborone club are Tim Morton (skip), Cliff Richardson, Kabo Gaboutloele and Brian Jones.

In the men's singles semi-finals on Wednesday, Ray Mascarenhas was scheduled to take on Tim Morton while Gaboutloele took on Boitumelo Mosinyi of Jwaneng. Mascarenhas has eight national singles gold medals and is the only player to have won men's fours, pairs and singles in one tournament.
