Today, netball marks 150 days before the sport’s biggest moment, the 2017 World Netball Youth Cup (WNYC) in Gaborone, but slow funding has been the sore thumb. Botswana is gearing for its finest moment in netball in July when 20 countries converge in Gaborone for the global showpiece.

But Botswana Netball Association (BONA) president, Tebogo Lebotse-Sebego decried slow progress in their bid to plug a budget deficit. The government has provided P10.9 million of the required P30 million to host the event, and Lebotse-Sebego acknowledges the response has been slow.

“This is an area that is significantly lagging behind. The NWYC secretariat continues to engage potential sponsors, however the response for the project from sponsors has been slow. We continue to implore the private community to support NWYC2017,” Lebotse-Sebego said when giving a media update.
