Francistown soothes Rio athletes

FRANCISTOWN: Following a wave of negative spite over the performances of Team Botswana at the just ended Rio Olympics, fans in the second city provided a soothing welcome for the athletes.

Nijel Amos, who was at the centre of storm, said he is overwhelmed to finally receive a meaningful welcome. He said he is encouraged by the youth who still see him as an idol.

“Finally I feel at home,” he said. “Francistown is my home, these people love sport. Winning is one thing and touching so many people, this number of young children, the love we got, is a win on its own. People still believe in us and we will give it a go again.
