Botswana Judo Federation (BJF) president, Estony Pridgeon has said that one of his organisation’s objectives is to increase the number of judo players around the country. Speaking at the ground-breaking ceremony of the judo facility in Gaborone on Tuesday, Pridgeon said this will help change people’s lives through the education, energy and the spirit of judo.

The facility is the result of a grant of close to P970,000 from the Japanese government through their embassy in Botswana. She said the dojo is ideal in the build up to the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.

“I am pleased that the design of the centre will not only meet the requirements of this unique sport, but also conceived with sustainability in mind. Apart from building hardware, we also attach great importance to the development of our judo programmes,” she said. Pridgeon said they are privileged to have outstanding support from then International Judo Federation in the initial design, funding and technical support for the dojo project.
