First Division North player dies in a road mishap

FRANCISTOWN: Serowe based First division North outfit Green Lovers are mourning the death of one of their player who lost his life in a brutal road accident on Saturday morning.

Club owner and coach, Onthusitse Chips Kootswele confirmed the accident to Sport Monitor in an interview yesterday.He said the accident occurred on Saturday morning as the player was travelling with four of his teammates to a league match against Amakhosi FC in Francistown. The player met his fate after the Toyota Corolla they were travelling in overturned after the driver lost control following a tire burst at Dikabeya near Palapye.

Names of the player who played in a holding midfield position for Lovers have been withheld as police are still investigations are continuing. Meanwhile, the weekend clash was called off because of the accident. The coach further said that the other four players were rushed to Palapye Primary Hospital with minor injuries. Two of the four injured players were treated and released at Palapye hospital the same afternoon. According to him the other remaining two injured players were transferred from Palapye to Serowe hospital where they were treated and discharged on Saturday evening.
