Fighters shun big names

After a season in the MedRescue First Division, Premier League side Mogoditshane Fighters say they are not going to risk signing big name players who might fail to deliver. Speaking to Mmegi Sport yesterday, Fighters' spokesman, Molatlhegi Mangole said that they are only going to buy players who suit their style of play.

He said that it is better they sign young players who will fit into their system and add value than established big name players who will not be hungry to succeed.
He told Mmegi Sport that they have good players who fought very hard to bring back Fighters to top-flight football after relegation last year. He cited ECCO City Greens' success as an example of a team that believed in the potential of their players. "They won the league with most players that they used in the First Division. If you look at a player like Mandlaenkosi Sibanda, he was not even a big name player in Zimbabwe but he added value at ECCO," he said.
He praised former international midfield maestro, Masego Ntshingane for his commitment to the team. He described him as a livewire in the team. "If a player can commit himself to a team like Masego has done, then you know he is a great player. He managed to drop the Zebras and stick with us though we relegated and he is our important player," Mangole said.
He revealed that they have not yet made new signings but they are interested in a number of players. "Some of the players we will be talking to are in the Under-23 team that went to South Africa. Some will be playing in the Kabelano Cup this weekend while others will be involved in the Charity tournament in Francistown where we will also be participating," he said.
Mangole revealed that they are keeping their coach, Letang Kgengwenyane, who brought the team back from the First Division. "We are not a team that is hungry for success and if you look at our history, we have always believed in making our coaches to grow within the team and be recognised."
Mangole said that they are going to raise the issue of gate takings once again with the Premier League teams. He said that they propose a 50/50 share of gate takings rather than the host getting the biggest share. He said that during the games, it does not mean that all the supporters at the match are from the two teams playing.
"Some teams are also bound to lose in the less important games like the games that were played after ECCO City had wrapped the championship. In that case, the team that hosted the second round game is not gaining that much unlike if it was a 50/50 share," he said.
