Fighters make hay as GNT, Mosquito sink again

ORAPA: For the second year running, Great North Tigers (GNT) faltered badly on the last day of action to let the Med Rescue North First Division League title to slip through their fingers over the weekend. The police-dominated side needed a simple win to make sure of automatic promotion or to set-up a title deciding play-off against their closest rivals Boteti Young Fighters.

The task was not very difficult given that they were perched on top of the log and facing bottom club Sua Flamingos in the last match of the campaign. But contrary to expectations, GNT were humiliated 3-0 by the visiting minnows while Young Fighters took full advantage by crushing Mahalapye Hotspurs 4-1 in their Orapa backyard. The turn of events meant that Fighters have won the championship and automatic promotion to the Mascom Premier League while GNT must try their promotion luck in the play-offs. Fighters' win elevated them to the top of the league log with an unassailable 44 points while GNT is second with 41.

This was the second time GNT was faltering on the last day after a similar tumble last year allowed TAFIC to make a quick comeback to the Premier League.
