Fighters Appeal For Clemency, Decline To Challenge Punishment

Although Mogoditshane Fighters start the next season six points down, the club is not appealing the decision to punish them for alleged mischief in the Premier League promotion play-offs.

Fighters' chairman, Rex Thobosi said they have written a letter to the Botswana Football Association (BFA) requesting the punishment to be reduced but they do not intend to challenge the decision to dock them points. He said they will not protest the decision even if their request for a lesser punishment is turned down. "We are not fighting. All we are saying is that starting the First Division  minus six points and having to pay the P5,000 when we are under resourced would set us back. We were not given a chance to defend ourselves after the sentence. So we are only trying to get clemency," Thobosi said.

He stated that they are still amazed at the way the case was handled. He said after the BFA Disciplinary Committee (DC) changed the initial charge of match-fixing to unfair play in Fighters' controversial 12-1 loss to Jwaneng Comets in the play-offs, they were left wondering if at all there was any case to answer.
