FIFA unaware of local football matters in court

The world soccer governing body, FIFA, has professed ignorance on the increasing number of local football matters ending in the courts of law.

Botswana has seen a rise in the number of cases referred to ordinary courts despite FIFA statutes stipulating that football matters should not be taken to court.

Article 68, paragraph 2 of the FIFA statutes states that “Recourse to ordinary courts of law is prohibited unless specifically provided for in the FIFA regulations. Recourse to ordinary courts of law for all types of provisional measures is also prohibited.”
