His name might twist tongues and the Eritrea jersey he wore on the day raised eyebrows, but at the end of the fastest 100 metre dash in the country's history, Yatea Kambepera was capitulated to instant stardom, as he caressed his way into the history books, writes Staff Writer, MQONDISI DUBE

On a weekend of surprises across the world of sport, little known Kambepera emerged the unlikely hero when he woke up on Sunday morning as Botswana's fastest man. He had eclipsed compatriot, Obakeng Ngwigwa record's, shedding 0.07secs of the national mark to clock 10.36secs.

He appears an unassuming character, refusing to go to his head. That 10.36secs transformed his status, and the soft-spoken Sehitwa-born sprint star admits that there was an overwhelming response after the race. However, he is trying to remain grounded in the face of newly found fame.
