Ex-Nico player cries foul

SELEBI-PHIKWE: Former Zimbabwean Under-17 national team player, Paul Ngwenya is stranded after Nico United terminated his contract saying he has failed to deliver.

The player had a three-year contract with the Selebi-Phikwe Premier League side which was terminated last month. He has been at Nico for only six months. Ngwenya said he was taken aback by the club's decision to terminate his contract. "My contract is supposed to run up to 2011 but I was shocked to learn that Nico management have released my blue book to FC Satmos as if I am on loan without first discussing the move with me," he claimed.

Ngwenya said that at one stage, the Nico management requested him to look for a club where he can be sent on loan because they could no longer afford to pay his salary. He said he was surprised that his blue book has been given to Satmos. His understanding is that since his contract is supposed to run for three years, Nico must compensate him for the remainder of the period as he feels the club has breached the agreement. Ngwenya said he is stranded as Nico has not paid his benefits and he cannot sign for another side because most clubs have exhausted their foreign quota. He said when Nico asked him to look for a team to join on loan, they promised to take care of his travelling expenses but this was never honoured.
