Ethiopia verdict keeps Zebras interested

The Zebras will follow closely proceedings in Zurich, Switzerland where Ethiopia face charges of using an ineligible player for the two nations' World Cup qualifier early this month.

If three points are deducted, it will revive the Zebras' interest in the race to qualify for Brazil 2014.However, Ethiopia, even without the three points, will still be in the driving seat. Zebras will be awarded three points on a 3-0 scoreline. Ethiopia currently has 13points and will go back to 10 points if the FIFA decision does not go their way.It will leave the Ethiopians two points ahead of South Africa's Bafana Bafana, and just three clear of the Zebras. This means the last matches, which were supposed to be dead rubbers, would be the deciders. The revived Zebras are away to Bafana Bafana while Ethiopia play a fading CAR side. Ethiopia's healthy goal difference of five will come to just two if FIFA is to award the result to Botswana on a 3-0 score line.

The equation will be simple for Botswana; beat Bafana Bafana by any score line while hoping CAR pull a victory of two or more goals over Ethiopia. However, a draw between the Zebras and Bafana Bafana will confirm Ethiopia as group winners regardless of the CAR result.Zebras coach, Stanley Tshosane said their aim is to win the outstanding fixture, regardless of the Ethiopia verdict.
