President Ian Khama has the chance to sell Botswana as a training base for the England national team during the 2010 World Cup when he meets with the English FA vice president Barry Bright this week.

It is expected that Botswana's wish to provide a training base for England ahead of the World Cup will be part of the meeting's agenda. Bright told Monitor Sport that he will be surprised if the issue does not come up at the meeting. "England is aware of the interest but no decision has been taken yet. The FA is aware that Botswana would like England to have its training camp in this country. I understand even the current coach, Fabio Capello is aware of this. It will be very good. It will assist football development in the country, but like we say in England there are many, many bridges to cross. First, England must qualify for the World Cup 2010," Bright told Monitor Sport in an interview. Botswana has been courting England and other top football countries for sometime now to come and pitch base on its shores ahead of the World Cup. In its bid to entice the top football nations, Botswana has been investing in a number of key infrastructure like the expansion of the airport, building of a state of the art stadium in Gaborone, renovation of the existing National Stadium, the UB Stadium and the SSKB Stadium in Mogoditshane.

Licences for at least three five star hotels along the Airport Road, the Central Business District (CBD) and Fair Ground Mall have been issued, while a major private hospital, owned by government medical aid companies is currently being built on the outskirts of Gaborone.
