The eight-year marriage between the Botswana National Sports Council (BNSC) and Barloworld vis--vis the annual sports awards is coming to an end this year. Barloworld Managing Director Peter Stevenson unveiled a massive P250,000 on Friday and announced that it is sponsoring the BNSC awards this year for the last time. He said that eight years ago, they adopted sports development as an integral part of their corporate social responsibility hence their partnership with BNSC.

He explained that the partnership came because of a desire to accelerate sports development in Botswana. He said their relationship has been fulfilling and mutually beneficial and they are very pleased to have been associated with sports in Botswana. He said the energy and resources that have been invested in sport development have not been in vain as the results are beginning to show. "Botswana sporting landscape is gradually becoming green and colourful as more and more sporting codes acquait themselves well especially at regional level," he said.

The Barloworld chief said they believe that they have played their part and it is time the awards are sponsored by other companies. However, he promised they would continue to support sports in other ways. "We would like to thank BNSC for the wonderful partnership and wish them well in their future endeavours in development of sports in the country," he said.
