Early break for Premier League teams

The Botswana Premier League (BPL) will close the first half of the season earlier to allow the Zebras to prepare for the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) finals in Equatorial Guinea and Gabon next January.

The Zebras make their maiden AFCON appearance next year and are scheduled to go into an intensive training camp on December 14, a development that will affect the be MOBILE Premier League fixtures. The 16-nations  AFCON runs from 21 January to February 12. While the two-month long break will affect the fixtures, BPL general manager Setete Phutego said they would have to make up for lost ground early next year."We'll close on 11 December to allow the national team to go into the final preparations.

Obviously, this will have an effect on the running of the league because this is two full months, which is about eight weeks. But we have to support the national team like we did during the course of the campaign," Phutego told Mmegi Sport.It is likely that ,the Zebras will have a training camp in West Africa and take part in a four-nation tournament in Ghana in December.
