Eagles barred from First Division play-offs

FRANCISTOWN: Division One outfit Sladden Eagles were over the weekend reportedly prevented from participating in the First Division north play-offs by the Francistown Regional Football Association (FRAFA).

The play-offs had attracted other six Division One champions in the Northern part of the country.The first round of the play-offs was played in Serowe over weekend and the last round will be played this weekend. Each club will play six games with the two top teams after the second round gaining promotion to the first division north.

Birds were declared Division One champions after Eagles mentor; Elliot Mavhondo reportedly coached the team without a work permit and resident permit.Birds are reported to have launched a protest before the Eagles match on Thursday. The club is said to have questioned why Eagles coach Mavhondo sat on the Eagles' bench though he does not have a work permit. Eagles on the other hand argued that Mavhondo is a volunteer and is not contracted to the club.
