Botswana National Sports Council (BNSC) official, Bobby Gaseitsiwe, told Mmegi Sport that anti-doping tests are done on all athletes who participate in international competitions and it is not confined to athletics.He explained that the process is being conducted by the Regional Anti-Doping Office, and not BNSC. He noted that so far the athletes have been cooperative.Gaseitsiwe said the idea of conducting tests is to make sure that the competition amongst players is fair and in line with international practice.
Meanwhile, Gaseitsiwe said it was disappointing that Batswana runners failed to qualify for the International Athletics Association Federation (IAAF) World Championships that will be held in Moscow in August. Zimbabwe's Andrew Chimbidzikai won the 28th edition of marathon while Unaswi Dambe was runner-up with another local runner, Bashingili Ndabili, coming third. Chimbidzikai walked away with P25, 000. The runner-up pocketed P15, 000 and the third prize was P7, 500. Chimbidzikai said that it was his first time to take part in the race and felt that he did not face stiff competition from Batswana runners.
